The staff of the annual Ford Product Development Center (PDC) Truck and Car Show is pleased to announce its addition to the calendar of official events celebrating the Company’s 100th Anniversary of Lincoln!  The Lincoln Anniversary Team would like to invite all Lincoln owners to this exciting show, the only Company-sponsored, internal event of its kind.  The PDC Show is unique in that it emphasizes the product development aspect of the participant vehicles and includes a wide variety of models of many makes and types.  Company staff and management from all areas of product development attend to learn, and draw inspiration from, the heritage, features, and lessons associated with the field of vehicles on display.

The grounds in Dearborn cover nearly a half mile of Rotunda Drive along the PDC Staff Buildings’ lawn frontage.  All Lincolns – as all vehicle classes in the event – will be parked in a single area (includes Lincoln entries normally distributed between Pre-War Cars, Post-War Non-Ford FoMoCo-Branded Cars, and Trucks).  The PDC Show is comprised of vehicles owned by collectors and museums from throughout the United States and Canada (and occasionally from other countries, as well).

We are extending the invitation for Lincoln owners until May 31, 2022.  Details below:

Schedule

Feature Cars (To Be Identified) Setup at 5:00am to 6:30am

–      General Arrivals from 6:30am to 8:30am (sharp)

–      Executive Tour at 11:30am (approximately)

–      Participant Raffle at 12:30pm (approximately)

–      Lockdown ends 1:15pm (approximately)

–      Most vehicles leave by 3:30pm (estimate)

–          Complete vehicles in presentable to concours condition to fulfill the primary goal of education and inspiration

–          Preferably in factory appearance, though not mandatory

–          Owners can nominate and, upon confirmation, participate with multiple vehicles

Pull out the suntan lotion, your sunglasses, gloves and hat.  Get that gallant Lincoln serviced and ready.  It is time to head down the road to the “Playground of the Stars”.  A week of movie stars, classic cars, fresh air and fun await you.   You may see Ann Hathaway (The Devil wears Prada) or Leonardo DeCaprio (Titanic) visiting their homes in the area.  John Travolta’s plane, grey with a large orange “T”, can be seen hanging at the airport from time to time.  Suzanne Somers (Three’s Company) and Barry Manilow are often seen out together for dinner at one of the local restaurants.  If you want to live in one of the star’s homes, Sylvester Stallone’s house is currently on the market.  However, if the glamour of stars does not appeal to you, and you would rather spend time on a golf course, there are about a hundred available, with all different levels of difficulty and beauty.  If you have a more rugged nature side, there are over a hundred hiking trails around canyons and through groves of native palm trees or maybe a scenic horse ride along one of the many beautiful oases appeals to you.  The famous Pioneertown is only a short drive away.  Walk down Main Street just as Roy Rogers and Dale Evans did along with Son’s of the Pioneers in their TV series.   The point being, there is plenty to see and do while you are in the area.

This highly anticipated Car Show Meet takes place Saturday, on the Desert Princess Country Club and Golf Course in Cathedral City adjacent to the Double Tree Hotel, our host hotel.  It will be a gathering of some of the very finest cars our members have to offer, in a picture-perfect desert setting.  Featured car classes will meander down the golf course set aside for our use.  What better way to feature those glamorous Lincolns.

Plans are being finalized to add technical seminars to the list of activities.  The renowned “Lincoln Whisperer” is ready to help you understand the hallowed secrets to making that convertible top work more than once.  There will also be a technical program on a/c systems and repairs, what works best to keep you cool.  Who knows, there may be our own version of “Click and Clack” questions and answers to those other car issues too.  Some slight changes are in progress to the standard weekend format, such as Friday Night’s event will take place at a large warehouse housing several private collections of cars.  Friday night’s event will include adult beverages, food plus a silent auction.  We understand the fabulous jazz singer Kathryn White will be performing there for your enjoyment that night too.  Our drive tour will take you by homes of several stars culminating at yet another large private automotive collection.  We have not forgotten those less car crazed among us, which I call “Car Widows”.   We are preparing other great events to choose from.  We have 24 exciting ideas we are narrowing down to which ones will fit into our schedule.

Even though the dates state May 4-8, you will need more time to take in and enjoy all the fun.

2021 Lincoln Homecoming will Feature Two Car Shows, Tour and Symphony

The eighth annual Lincoln Homecoming in August 2021 will feature two different car shows.  The first will be a virtual Lincoln car show, which will extend from now through July 28. It will have its own People’s Choice awards by decade, voted on by all persons registered for the virtual car show.

The second event will be in person—the annual Homecoming at the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan on August 12 – 15.  The Homecoming will also have People’s Choice awards, by decade.

All Lincolns registered for the virtual car show will also be registered for the in-person car show for the $25 price; in effect, one registration for two car shows.  (Complete details on the virtual car show appear below.)

The theme of the 2021 Homecoming is “Marks Through the Ages,” which will recognize all Lincoln Continental Marks, from the first in 1940 to the Mark VIII.  Although Continental Marks will be the feature in 2021, Lincolns from all eras are welcome.  Four major Lincoln clubs will be represented–the Lincoln Owners Club, Lincoln-Zephyr Owners Club, Road Race Lincoln Register and Lincoln and Continental Owners Club.   However, one need not be a member of those Lincoln clubs to display a car at the annual Lincoln Homecoming or participate in the virtual car show.

The 2021 Lincoln Homecoming weekend event will include a countryside tour and luncheon, dinners, an auction and car show. The 2021 Lincoln Homecoming is being hosted by the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum; Homecoming Co-Chairs are Dennis Garrett and Bob Johnson. in the virtual car show.  

Most activities take place outside, to address any ongoing concerns about the COVID virus.  For attendees’ own benefit as well as to protect others attending the annual meet we strongly encourage attendees to have received vaccinations, maintain social distancing and, of course, wear a mask.

We’re all aware that Covid 19 remains a serious problem; a number of car events have been cancelled or delayed.  At this stage, we are continuing to plan for this year’s Homecoming Meet.  We will, of course, continue to monitor recommendations and requirements from Michigan Health Department authorities and certainly, if necessary, will cancel our event in response to unfolding events.

Although we hope this will not be necessary, attendees’ health and wellbeing are our primary consideration in making such decisions.  Should the event be cancelled or if you decide not to come because you or someone in your family becomes infected with Covid 19 within a three-week period prior to August 12, 2021 you may notify the Homecoming registrar to cancel your reservations and receive a full refund of any amount paid to attend the event.

Here’s a quick look at the weekend plans.

Most participants will arrive on Thursday.  That evening will be on your own.  Enjoy one of the Kalamazoo areas restaurants with your friends.

On Friday, there’ll be a motoring tour.  It will travel beautiful western Michigan back roads to Fenn Valley Vineyards in the beautiful Lake Michigan Shore Wine Region.  There, participants can park their Classic Lincolns and enjoy a tour of the winery and vineyards, wine-tasting and a delicious luncheon.  Cost is $30 per person.  (Afterwards, participants may wish to visit nearby Saugatuck and its unique shopping district.)  At 5 p.m. there’ll be a “cocktail” parts and special presentation at the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum followed by dinner “under the stars” (big tent) adjacent to the museum.  The traditional auction of Lincoln parts, literature and memorabilia will be held that evening.  Funds raised will benefit the LMCF Endowment Fund.

The big day will be Saturday—a display of all Lincolns adjacent to the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum.  Cars will be arranged according to era.   That evening, dinner will again be served under the stars.  Car show awards will be presented after dinner.  Cost for dinner is $50 per person.  Following dinner, attendees may attend a special performance of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum featuring trumpeter Winton Marsalis.  Cost for the symphony is $30 per person.  Seats are limited.

On Sunday the weekend fun will continue with a display of all Lincolns on the grounds adjacent to the Lincoln museum. Included in the activities will be a parade of Lincolns on the Gilmore Car Museum grounds.

A professional photographer will be on the museum grounds on Saturday morning to take photographs of individual Lincolns by appointment. Complete details are included in the registration forms.

The host hotel in Kalamazoo is the Four Points Sheraton by Kalamazoo, 3600 E. Cork St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001. This hotel offers excellent accommodations, dining, and amenities. The hotel is about 15 miles south of Hickory Corners. A complimentary hot breakfast for two is included in the room rate of $120 plus tax. For room reservations call 1-269-385-3922; use the code “Lincoln Club” to receive the special room rate.  Room reservation cut-off is July 12, 2021.  (Note: the special room rate is good for three days prior to and after the meet at the Four Points Sheraton.)

About the Virtual Car Show…

Entering a car in the virtual car show is easy.  All you need to do is log on to https://vlmcmhomecomingmeet.cornerstonereg.com/ you may register for only the virtual car show if you cannot attend the 2021 Homecoming in August.

You’ll find tutorials that will guide you through the process.

  • How to register your car
  • How to update your car’s information and upload photos
  • How to “attend” the virtual event and view photo

In preparation, you’ll need photographs of your car.  In addition to posting photos you’ll also be asked to supply a description of your car—up to 200 words.   You can visit the virtual car show now and see what other Lincoln owners have posted to give you some ideas.

Once  the $25 registration fee has been paid for the virtual car show there’s no need to pay the fee again when you register for the live show—the 2021 Homecoming.   One fee covers both events.  Participants may enter as many cars as they like for the virtual car show (and for the live show) for the $25 per car fee.

The Sixth Annual Lincoln Homecoming will offer a unique twist in 2019—not only will Lincolns of all eras be on display, but all Ford Motor Company-built vehicles are invited to join the festivities, which will be held at the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan and the host hotel, Four Points Sheraton in Kalamazoo.

“We’re calling the 2019 Homecoming ‘See Ford Blue in Kalamazoo,’” said Mike Denney, president of the Road Race Lincoln Register, the Lincoln club hosting the 2019 Homecoming.

The RRLR is one of four major Lincoln clubs that comprise the Lincoln Motor Car Foundation. The others are the Lincoln Owners Club, Lincoln-Zephyr Owners Club and the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club. However, all Lincoln owners are invited to register and attend.

The 2019 Lincoln Homecoming committee has planned interesting and enjoyable activities that encompass several days. Participants may participate in all or any of the scheduled events.

The events scheduled for the week include driving tours to the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum, the W. K. Kellogg Gull Lake mansion, Vicksburg Historical Village and Bell’s Brewery and a VIP reception at the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum for LMCF major donors.

After Friday evening’s banquet, Tony Russo will again conduct our live auction, so be ready to bid on all the items you think you need. On Saturday there will be an all-Ford Motor Company-built car show. That evening, a banquet will feature guest speaker Gale Haldeman, designer of several Ford and Lincoln vehicles, including the original Mustang. On Sunday, there’ll be a car display and awards presentation.
Something new has been added for Monday—an all-day visit to the U.S.131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, where individuals can run their cars or simply watch.

“You can just drive your car on the track or punch it for speed and time.  Our cars have the horsepower to move out at whatever pace you choose,” said Bob Johnson, LMCF trustee and meet coordinator.  “At the U.S.131 Motorsports Park, you can do it in a supervised and lawful environment. You will be able to do as many timing runs as the day will allow during our six hour time block.”

Festivities will begin Wednesday, August 7 and conclude Monday evening, August 12 but, as noted, you may register for all or individual events.

This meet will be non-judged for all cars; there will be People’s Choice awards for Best of Show, and Best of each Decade, as voted by participants. There will also be a Ladies’ Choice Best of Show Award. The meet is open to members of all Lincoln clubs as well as non-club Lincoln owners. In addition, owners of any Ford Motor Company-built product are invited to show their vehicle on both Saturday and Sunday—Lincoln, Ford, Edsel, Mercury, hot rod or custom car.

The host hotel is the Four Points Kalamazoo by Sheraton, 3600 East Cork Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001. The Four Points offers excellent accommodations, excellent food, and fine amenities. The hotel is just over 15 miles from Hickory Corners. A complimentary hot breakfast for two is included in the room rate of $117 plus tax. A limited number of rooms are available at this rate; please register early. Proposed Agenda

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a Lincoln and Ford products swap meet and car corral area on the Gilmore Car Museum grounds with major vendors in attendance. More information will be included in registration packets.

Wednesday evening, attendees may drive to the Gilmore Car Museum to enjoy their free weekly cruise-in night. A second choice is free hors d’oeuvres and refreshments at Four Points Sheraton Hotel (for hotel guests only). Attendees will be able to relax and have the opportunity to visit with some of your longtime friends and meet new enthusiasts.

Thursday will have a choice of a full day of activities with two driving tours from which to choose. One will be a tour to Vicksburg Historical village. The other will be to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and Kellogg Manor House (which includes a plated lunch) and the Bell’s Brewery in nearby Galesburg. Thursday evening will feature a special welcome buffet at the hotel.

Friday will also offer a choice of two different driving tours. First, is a driving tour to the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids (including lunch). The second driving tour will be to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Kellogg Manor House (which includes a plated lunch) and the Bell’s Brewery. At 5 p. m. a LMCF Donor Reception will be held at the Lincoln museum for all LMCF Lifetime members.

Friday evening will begin with a Happy Hour at the Gilmore Car Museum Conference Center, with a Texas-style barbecue to be followed by a lively Lincoln and Ford parts and memorabilia auction.  Tony Russo will again conduct our live auction.

“We need merchandise for the auction; please check your garage for unused parts and literature that fellow enthusiasts will be interested in bidding on. Please bring plenty of cash or your checkbook and take home some great items for your Ford product. This auction helps maintain and support our beautiful Lincoln museum,” said Mike Denney.

On Saturday morning, we will drive to Hickory Corners for the car show, with Road Race Lincoln era cars front and center. All cars must be on the show field by 10 a.m. and remain until 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. there will be a car parade around the Gilmore grounds featuring all Ford Motor Company-built automobiles. Saturday night will begin with a happy hour and banquet at the Gilmore Car Museum Conference Center, where attendees will enjoy the company of fellow vintage car enthusiasts.

On Sunday morning we will again drive to Hickory Corners to begin our Ford Motor Company Products Car Show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All vehicles must be on the show field by 10 a.m. All People’s Choice Awards will be handed out at noon. At 1 p.m. we will have a car parade around the Gilmore grounds featuring all Ford products. Pictures will be taken after completing presentation of awards. Sunday evening will feature a Mexican buffet at the Four Points hotel.

Monday at 9 a.m. we drive to the U.S. 131 Motorsports Park for timing and drag racing. That evening will be our Farewell American Cook Out Buffet at the Four Points hotel
On Tuesday we bid farewell to our old, and new found friends and have a safe trip home.

“While you are at the 90-acre historic Gilmore campus Saturday and Sunday, explore the nooks and crannies of this great institution. See and have your car photographed by a 1930s Shell gas station. Enjoy strolling the campus that is filled with classic automobiles,” said Mike Denney. “Other car museums are the Classic Car Club of America Museum, H.H. Franklin Museum, Pierce-Arrow Museum, Cadillac-LaSalle Museum, and Ford Model A Museum. Eat lunch in the authentic Blue Moon diner. Gilmore is America’s Signature Collection for Classic Motor Cars.
